Sports Massage

What is Sports Massage & Soft Tissue Therapy?
Massage is a natural therapy which has been used for thousands of years to treat an array of musculoskeletal problems. This involves a variety of hands-on deep tissue techniques such as effleurage, petrissage, cross fibre friction, and direct pressure. These combined with more advanced techniques such as 'Fascia release, Soft tissue release & neuromuscular technique' allows the therapist to work more specifically to identify where pain may be radiating from within the affected muscle groups. The effects of these soft tissue techniques are felt deep inside the muscles, breaking down scar tissue and increasing oxygen and blood flow to the affected area. This promotes the body's healing potential reducing acute & chronic pain within the muscular system thus allowing greater flexibility and range of movement.

Taping

What is Taping

Kinesiology tape was originally developed to speed-up the recovery-time for athletes with injured or overused muscles.

Muscles lose their elasticity when they are injured or overused, and this is what can result in such long recovery times for seemingly small issues. Many treatments for injuries focus on returning the muscle to its natural shape and position, but this can restrict the movement of the injured body part, which leads to stiffness and slows down recovery time. By mimicking our muscles’ elasticity, taping can have the opposite effect and actually encourage our muscles to heal faster.

At Forest sports and Remedial Massage I use RockTape which is the world’s best kinesiology tape. It can be used to treat sports and non-sports injuries, including shin splints, plantar fasciitis, shoulder issues, runner’s knee and back pain.

RockTape microscopically lifts the skin away from the muscle and fascia below, creating a decompressive effect. It reduces muscle fatigue and promotes blood flow for a faster recovery. As well as promoting lymph drainage to remove toxins produced by the body during performance. These combined effects allow the athlete to train harder for longer.

Available as part of a sports massage or £15 for taping pre or post competition.
